Jacob Craig's performance merges the contrasting listening contexts compartmentalised in our everyday lives, those that fail to co-exist in the same space. Environmental field recording magnifies fleeting ambient noises, while instrumental music fragments are relegated to a textural role in the background of the work. Conversely, samples of incidental quotidian sounds are forced into the foreground, a heightened focus on their structure, pitch and timbre enabling listeners to appreciate the musical quality of indeterminate sounds, so often filtered out of day-to-day sonic experience.
